Tinubu Hails Bayelsa Governor Over Power, Road, Bridge Projects
President Bola Tinubu has praised Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, for what he described as transformative infrastructure projects, including a gas turbine, roads, and a bridge.
Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of four state-executed projects, the President said the initiatives reflected purposeful leadership and effective cooperation between the federal and state governments.
The projects commissioned include the 60MW Bayelsa Gas Turbine, the dualised New Yenagoa City Road 1, the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, and the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road.
“You have done a great job. I have commissioned some projects, very transformative projects, creating opportunities and jobs and a hope for our nation,” Tinubu said. He thanked the governor for his commitment and described him as “very progressive.”
The President added that his administration would continue to tackle insecurity, train security personnel, and intensify the fight against terrorism and banditry.
He noted that the power plant project was particularly important, saying, “There can be no industrialisation, skill development and empowerment without power.” He assured Nigerians of the government’s determination to provide electricity to drive national growth.
In his remarks, Governor Diri explained that the projects had closed long-standing infrastructure gaps, especially in riverine communities. He said the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge would improve connectivity and cut travel time for residents of Southern Ijaw and Brass local government areas.
Diri also acknowledged the Federal Government’s support, including waivers for equipment importation for the power plant and the award of the second phase of the Nembe–Brass road. He described the collaboration between both tiers of government as key to the state’s development.
