Iran Accuses US of Insincerity Over Ceasefire Violations

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Monday accused the United States of lacking genuine commitment to diplomacy, pointing to what it described as multiple breaches of a fragile two-week ceasefire.

Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told a weekly press briefing that while Washington claims to favor dialogue and negotiation, its actions show little seriousness in pursuing a diplomatic resolution.

He cited three specific violations: a US attack on an Iranian cargo ship early Monday, a continued American naval blockade on Iranian ports, and delays in implementing a ceasefire in Lebanon.

The ceasefire, which took effect on April 8, has been under strain since the outbreak of war between Iran and a US-Israeli alliance. The conflict began on February 28 after strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering a regional conflagration.

Tehran and Washington have already held one round of talks, which failed to produce a deal to end the war.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump said he had ordered American negotiators to travel to Pakistan on Monday for another round of discussions. However, Iran has yet to confirm whether it will take part.

“As of now, while I am at your service, we have no plans for the next round of negotiation, and no decision has been made in this regard,” Baqaei said.

Key sticking points remain Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium and the status of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which has been largely closed since the war began.

“Regarding the issue of transferring enriched uranium, neither during this period of negotiations nor before has transferring it to the United States been discussed,” Baqaei said. “It was never raised as an option for us,” he added.
