ADC Dismisses Exclusion Rumours, Vows to Field Candidates for 2027 Elections
The African Democratic Congress has dismissed speculations that it may be unable to field candidates in the 2027 general elections, declaring that it remains fully prepared for the polls.
The party described reports suggesting its possible exclusion as unfounded and mischievous, insisting that there is no legal impediment to its participation in the upcoming elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ADC vowed to present credible, competent, and nationally acceptable candidates for all elective positions, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its structures ahead of the polls.
The party’s declaration follows a recent Supreme Court ruling on its leadership crisis, which some observers claimed could hinder the party from fielding candidates in 2027.
The ADC, however, maintained that it remains the country’s leading opposition platform, focused on rescuing Nigeria from the perceived failures of the ruling party and preventing a slide toward a one-party state.
While reports have emerged suggesting that some prominent opposition figures, including former governors Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may defect to another party next week, the ADC urged its members and supporters to disregard such assertions.
The party called on well-meaning Nigerians to ignore what it described as baseless claims aimed at creating confusion, stressing that the task of building a credible opposition must not be derailed by speculation.
