Police Arrest Security Guard, Another Suspect Over Vandalism at Ondo Hospital
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two individuals, including a security officer attached to the General Hospital in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area, over alleged vandalism and theft of electrical property at the facility.
The first suspect, Promise Godspower, was accused of illegally gaining access to the hospital premises, removing electrical cables and other installations, and making off with them.
The second suspect, Pogbara Sigalo, a security personnel assigned to the hospital, was arrested for alleged dereliction of duty after he reportedly abandoned his post around the time of the incident.
The police spokesperson for the command disclosed that the incident was reported on May 6, 2026, by a concerned citizen. Detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where photographic evidence of the damaged installations was obtained.
Following intelligence-led operations, the main suspect was arrested and allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Further investigations revealed that the absence of the security officer at his duty post may have created an opportunity for the vandalism to occur. Authorities are also probing whether the security guard was complicit in the act.
Stolen electrical cables have since been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to determine if other accomplices were involved.
The police confirmed that both suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
