APC Bars Two Rivers Reps, Fubara’s Allies from Primaries
The All Progressives Congress has excluded two serving members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State from contesting in its primary elections scheduled for today.
Awaji Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead were among four aspirants disqualified by the party, alongside retired Air Commodore John Opera and Anderson Igbiki. The affected individuals are known loyalists of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Abiante had previously been among the prominent Rivers politicians who purchased a governorship nomination form for Fubara.
The party released the final list of cleared and disqualified aspirants on Friday. According to the list, 21 candidates were cleared to participate in the primaries, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule.
Amaewhule is vying for the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency seat, seeking to replace the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda.
The state APC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, issued a statement confirming the final list from the party’s national leadership. He advised all aspirants to take note of the名单 and comply accordingly.
The primary election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
