Police Nab 52-Year-Old Man with 339 Wraps of Suspected Cannabis in Kogi
Operatives of the Kogi State Police Command have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly possessing 339 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.
The state Commissioner of Police disclosed the arrest during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Lokoja on Tuesday.
He stated that the arrest was made on May 9, 2026, at about 2:00 pm, following intelligence-led policing and a strategic stop-and-search operation. Operatives attached to the area command in Kabba intercepted a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE during the routine exercise.
The vehicle was driven by the 52-year-old suspect, identified as Chris Amos, while another man, Bilat Joseph, was seated as a passenger. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 339 wraps of substances reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly picked up the consignment from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State on the instruction of a man known only as “Alhaji,” whose full identity and whereabouts remain unknown. The suspects also stated that the illicit substance was to be delivered to Yola, Adamawa State.
The police commissioner said both suspects are currently in custody, while the exhibits have been secured pending the conclusion of investigations. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network and ensure diligent prosecution of all those connected with the crime.
He stressed that illicit drug trafficking remains a major factor fuelling violent crimes and criminality in society, adding that the command will continue aggressive operations targeted at dismantling criminal syndicates and preventing the movement of illicit substances through the state.
The CP also commended residents for providing credible information that has aided the command’s operational successes.
