I Don’t Judge Women Involved in ‘Runs’ — Shaffy Bello

Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has stated that she does not judge young women who engage in transactional relationships, popularly referred to as “runs,” while encouraging them to seek growth and recognise their self-worth beyond survival choices.

Bello made the comments during an interview on a television talk show. Clips from the conversation circulated widely on social media on Thursday, drawing significant attention.

Speaking on self-worth and the pressures confronting many young women, the actress stressed that women do not need to expose their bodies or chase online validation to be seen as attractive or successful.

She noted that many young people need to hear that there is more to life than seeking attention through provocative displays.

Addressing women who turn to transactional relationships to make ends meet, Bello said she understands the difficult realities behind such decisions, including the need to feed family members or pay school fees. She clarified that she was not speaking from a place of condemnation.

However, she urged them not to remain in that lifestyle, insisting that they are capable of much more.

Reflecting on her own career, Bello said she remains focused on acting because she believes it is her calling. She added that money is not everything and that using her platform to make a meaningful impact matters more to her than pursuing additional income through film production.

The interview has continued to generate debate online, with many social media users sharing their views on her remarks about women, economic hardship, and the pressures of fame and online visibility.
