Bandits Kill School Vice Principal, Kidnap Students in Kogi Community Attack
Grief and panic have gripped the Iluke Bunu community following a fatal morning attack by armed bandits that left a school administrator dead and several students missing.
The victim, identified as Mr. Gani Anifowose, the Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Iluke, was killed during the assault early Wednesday morning. The tragedy has left the local population in a state of high tension as fears mount over a worsening security situation.
In a further escalation, reports indicate that students from three neighboring communities who were scheduled to write their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) English Language paper today were allegedly abducted by the attackers.
The incident has heightened anxieties regarding the safety of educators and learners in vulnerable areas across Kogi State.
A spokesperson for the local community association expressed deep frustration over the response time of law enforcement, noting that no rescue operations had commenced an hour after emergency calls were placed. The association has made an urgent appeal to security agencies to deploy personnel to restore order and secure the release of the kidnapped students.
Meanwhile, community leaders have advised residents to remain calm and vigilant while hoping for a swift resolution to the crisis.
