Kano Governor Reshuffles Cabinet, Names New Aides

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle alongside the appointment of several new aides. The restructuring, which includes the scrapping of two advisory offices, is part of an initiative to enhance administrative efficiency and improve public service delivery across the state.

Under the new directives, the offices of Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs and Special Adviser on Liaison Offices (Abuja) have been dissolved, with the previous occupants reassigned to new roles. Habiba Barwa, formerly overseeing Domestic Affairs, takes over as Special Adviser on Special Duties (Women), while Umar Akawu shifts from the Abuja Liaison portfolio to become Special Adviser, Cabinet Office (Political).

Several other reassignments were made within the advisory team. Akibu Isa Murtala moves to Human Resources, Ibrahim Adam shifts from Information to Social Media, and Nasiru Isa Dikko transitions to the Empowerment portfolio.

In addition to the reallocations, Governor Yusuf expanded his team with several new appointments. Bello Nuhu Bello has been elevated from Senior Special Assistant to Special Adviser on Administration within the Governor’s Office. Ahmed Muhammad Aruwa, the former Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, has been named Special Adviser on Publicity. Other designated appointments include Buhari Sule Kura for Non-Governmental Organisations and Yahuza Ado Yankaba, who was promoted to Special Adviser on Motor Parks.

The administration also announced the appointment of Ahmed Tijjani Musa, Ibrahim Hamisu Rimi, Mustapha Abdullahi Rabiu Kura, Bashir Abdullahi Kutama, Naziru Abdullahi Karaye, and Tahir Ado Rabiu as Special Advisers.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the adjustments are designed to realign government institutions with his administration’s core priorities. He urged the new and redeployed officials to view their positions as a public trust, calling for transparency, accountability, and a strong commitment to the welfare of Kano State residents.

While the affected officials have been directed to report to the Secretary to the State Government for immediate briefing, specific portfolios for a number of the newly appointed advisers will be finalized and announced upon the governor’s return from an official trip abroad.
