Terrorists Strike Chibok Community Again, Zulum Speaks Insecurity
Fresh fears have gripped residents of Kautikari community in Borno State after suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents launched another attack on the area, setting educational facilities ablaze and forcing villagers to flee for safety.
The latest incident adds to a growing list of attacks on the Chibok Local Government Area community, which has repeatedly found itself in the crosshairs of terrorist groups over the years.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed Kautikari village at about 7 p.m. on Saturday and proceeded to set fire to both the community’s primary school and day secondary school.
Although no deaths or injuries were recorded during the attack, residents reportedly abandoned their homes and sought refuge in nearby bushes as panic spread across the community.
A security source confirmed that while casualties were avoided, the assault triggered another wave of displacement among villagers.
“No casualty has been reported so far, but residents fled into the bush to protect themselves,” the source disclosed.
Community members said the village has endured several insurgent attacks in the past, but many were particularly disturbed by the destruction of educational facilities during the latest raid.
One resident described the attack on the schools as unusual, noting that both public and private properties were affected.
The resident questioned the motive behind targeting institutions meant for learning, expressing concern over the impact the destruction could have on children in the community.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, could not be completed at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has reflected on the enormous challenges that have defined his administration since taking office in 2019.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by stakeholders from Gubio Local Government Area and the APC’s 2027 governorship candidate, Mustapha Gubio, the governor identified insecurity as the most difficult obstacle he has faced in office.
Zulum revealed that the demands of confronting insurgency and managing the state’s humanitarian crisis required significant personal sacrifices.
According to him, he saw his children only three times during his first 55 days as governor due to the intensity of the responsibilities before him.
Despite the challenges, the governor maintained that the security situation has improved considerably compared to previous years, while reaffirming his commitment to restoring lasting peace across the state.
