Joint Security Forces Recover Hundreds of Rustled Livestock and Weapon in Zamfara

A joint tactical operation by the Zamfara State Police Command and military personnel has led to the recovery of 329 rustled cattle, 175 sheep, and an AK-47 rifle alongside ammunition.

The operation took place in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Gambanda Forest within the Gumi Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit and military forces stormed the forest hideout at approximately 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, the joint security team engaged a group of armed bandits in a heavy gun duel.

The superior firepower and tactical maneuvering of the security forces ultimately forced the criminals to abandon their position and retreat deeper into the forest, with several bandits believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.

Following the confrontation, security forces searched the area and successfully recovered the stolen livestock, one AK-47 assault rifle, and 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Bello, praised the operatives for their bravery, professionalism, and resilience during the raid. He reiterated the command’s dedication to eradicating banditry and restoring sustainable peace to Zamfara State.

Authorities have also urged members of the public to maintain their support for security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to help track down criminal elements in the state.
