Elderly Man Killed in Midnight Bandit Attack on Plateau Community

A 74-year-old resident was killed early Sunday morning when suspected armed assailants invaded the Jebbu Miango community in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack, which began around 12:10 a.m., saw a group of gunmen enter the community and fire shots sporadically, forcing residents to flee their homes for safety. Troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), stationed in the area, received distress calls and mobilized to the scene, engaging the attackers in a gun battle.

According to military sources, the soldiers managed to overpower the assailants, compelling them to retreat into the nearby highlands. During a subsequent sweep of the area, security personnel discovered the body of the victim, identified as Baba Den, who had been killed during the initial assault.

In the aftermath of the raid, the military initiated intensive patrol and offensive operations across the surrounding terrain to prevent the gunmen from regrouping. Authorities have since declared the situation in the community to be under control.

Military officials are currently pursuing the fleeing suspects and have urged residents to remain calm while maintaining communication with security agencies regarding any suspicious activity. This incident marks yet another episode of violence in a region that has faced persistent security challenges from armed groups in recent years.
