Soldiers Intercept Foreign Courier Transporting Drugs to Terrorists in Borno
Troops operating under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested a suspected foreign drug courier and seized a large consignment of illicit substances and alcohol allegedly destined for terrorist groups in the Lake Chad Islands.
The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Rachael Samuel, a Chadian national, was apprehended on Thursday during a routine search operation along the Maiduguri–Monguno axis in Borno State. At the time of her arrest, she was traveling toward Kwatan Doron Baga in the Kukawa Local Government Area.
Military officials reported that the recovered items included approximately 30 kilograms of compressed cannabis, two 10-litre containers of a hazardous chemical substance, 48 bottles of dry gin, and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages. The suspect was also found with mobile communication devices and financial transaction cards.
According to the military, intelligence suggests that these substances are frequently used by terrorist elements to fuel violent activities and diminish fear among their fighters. The interception is viewed as a significant disruption of the logistical support network sustaining insurgency operations in the region.
The suspect is currently being held in military custody, and the seized items have been secured. Officials stated that both the suspect and the evidence will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for further investigation and legal processing. The military command praised the troops for their vigilance and urged the public to continue providing actionable information to assist in ongoing security efforts.
