NDLEA Arrests Former Okada Rider at Lagos Airport for Methamphetamine Trafficking

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a former commercial motorcyclist at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for attempting to smuggle a large consignment of illicit drugs into the country. The suspect was intercepted by security officials following intelligence reports and close surveillance upon his arrival from Uganda.

After being taken into custody and placed under medical observation, the suspect excreted 100 wraps of methamphetamine, which he had ingested prior to his flight to Nigeria.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had worked as a commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as an okada rider, in Lagos for 15 years. Preliminary findings suggest he recently joined a transnational drug trafficking syndicate in a bid to improve his financial status.

Confirming the arrest in an official statement, the NDLEA noted that the suspect’s attempt to secure a quick financial breakthrough through international drug trafficking failed after agency officials disrupted the operation. The agency reiterated its commitment to tracking down members of transnational drug networks utilizing Nigerian transit routes.
