President Tinubu Confirms Attendance at 81st UN General Assembly in September

President Bola Tinubu has confirmed he will attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this coming September. This was announced by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amb. Jimoh Ibrahim, following a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The upcoming visit marks a return to the global stage for the President, who delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent Nigeria at the summit in both 2024 and 2025 to focus on pressing domestic matters.

During his address, which is scheduled to air live during daytime hours in Nigeria, President Tinubu is expected to present the progress and outcomes of his administration’s economic and structural reforms to the global community. Additionally, diplomatic sources suggest a likely encounter with United States President Donald Trump, as seating arrangements are expected to place the two leaders in close proximity on the front row of the General Assembly hall.

Aside from delivering the national statement, President Tinubu is slated to participate in targeted side events focusing on power generation, education, and healthcare infrastructure. Discussions will also extend to regional security, with the President indicating plans to collaborate with the United Nations on implementing a comprehensive border policing framework to address security vulnerabilities across West Africa’s borders.
