Bauchi Police Arrest 70-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Sexual Assault of Eight-Year-Old Girl

The Bauchi State Police Command has taken a 70-year-old man into custody over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Bauchi metropolis.

The suspect, identified as Usman Abubakar, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father at the Yelwa Police Division.

According to police authorities, the incident allegedly occurred in the Tsakanin Bayara area, where the suspect reportedly lured the child to an unfinished building and sexually assaulted her.

Following the report, officers moved swiftly to apprehend the suspect. Police said preliminary investigations led to his arrest, while the victim was taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

The command disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act and assured residents that the case would be thoroughly investigated. He also directed that appropriate legal action be taken against the suspect if found culpable after the investigation.

Police authorities reiterated their commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence, urging parents and community members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse and related offences.

The command further assured the public that it would continue to pursue justice for victims and ensure offenders face the full weight of the law.
