Ogun Assembly Exonerates Former Speaker Oluomo, Commutes Impeachment to Resignation

The Ogun State House of Assembly has officially exonerated former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo of financial embezzlement allegations linked to his removal from office in 2024, converting his impeachment into a formal resignation.

The decision was reached following the adoption of a report by the Committee of the Whole House, presented by Deputy Speaker Lateefat Ajayi during Wednesday’s plenary at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta.

The Assembly noted that the embezzlement claims were unproven based on available evidence and were not originally included in the notice of removal served on the former Speaker. Invoking fair hearing provisions under Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), lawmakers voted unanimously to drop the allegations.
