At least four Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed on Friday during a heavy gun battle with suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbe town, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack began around 10:00 AM when over 300 heavily armed militants riding on motorcycles invaded the town. Troops stationed at a local military outpost engaged the insurgents upon their arrival, leading to a prolonged shootout. During the clash, the attackers disabled a military vehicle by shooting out its tires and damaging its windshield.

Following the initial confrontation, the gunmen moved into the commercial center of Kebbe, targeting the Sabon Gari area. Witnesses reported that the militants looted shops, stealing large quantities of mobile phones, food items, and residents’ motorcycles.

The security breach extended to the Kebbe General Hospital, where the attackers smashed vehicle windows including an ambulance and a police chief’s car and confiscated mobile phones from patients.

Local security sources indicate that the militants withdrew from the town toward the west by evening, moving into nearby communities like Ungushi. While the Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident and noted that details are still being gathered, official military confirmation regarding the casualty figures remains pending.
