Ogun APC Crisis Deepens as Party Petitions IGP Over Alleged Impersonation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and prosecute Abayomi Hunye over allegations that he has been falsely presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.

In a petition made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the party accused Hunye of impersonation, describing his actions as a threat to public peace and the integrity of the electoral process.

The APC alleged that Hunye had used various media platforms to portray himself as the party’s governorship flagbearer despite not being recognised by the party.

The party maintained that its duly recognised governorship ticket for the 2027 election consists of Senator Adeola Olamilekan as governorship candidate and Kudirat Abiodun as deputy governorship candidate.

According to the APC, Hunye was suspended from the party earlier this year following allegations of anti-party activities and actions considered detrimental to party unity.

The party urged the police to invite Hunye for questioning and investigate claims that his conduct could mislead members of the public and create confusion within the political landscape of Ogun State.

It also called for appropriate legal action if the allegations are established, including prosecution for alleged impersonation and related offences.

The APC further requested that security authorities prevent any further representation of Hunye as the party’s candidate, warning that such claims could undermine public order.

The party pledged to cooperate with investigators and provide any information required to assist the probe.
