Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Over Alleged Killing of Father in Anambra

Police in Anambra State have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the death of his father in Abatete, a community in Idemili North Local Government Area.

The suspect is alleged to have attacked his 56-year-old father during an incident that occurred on Tuesday evening before leaving the scene. Security operatives later discovered the victim’s body and launched a search for the suspect.

Following a report from residents, police officers, supported by local vigilante members and community volunteers, carried out an operation that led to the suspect’s arrest in the early hours of Wednesday.

Authorities said the victim’s remains were recovered and taken to a mortuary for preservation and further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

The state police command commended community members for providing useful information that aided the arrest, describing the cooperation as an example of the importance of collaboration between security agencies and residents in crime prevention and detection.

Police authorities have also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries, while the suspect is expected to face legal proceedings upon the conclusion of investigations.
