Police Ask VeryDarkMan to Back Kidnap Allegations Against Officers With Evidence

The Nigeria Police Force has called on social media personality VeryDarkMan to provide evidence supporting claims that some police officers stationed at highway checkpoints collaborate with kidnappers by sharing information about travellers.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Force described the allegation as serious and said it requires credible proof for proper investigation. The police maintained that officers deployed to checkpoints are tasked with preventing crime, protecting road users, and detecting criminal activities, not aiding criminal groups.

The Force noted that many officers risk their lives daily while confronting kidnappers, bandits, and other violent criminals across the country. It added that several personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty, while police facilities and operational assets have also come under attack from criminal elements.

While defending the integrity of the institution, the police stressed that any officer found guilty of misconduct or collusion with criminals would face disciplinary measures and legal consequences.

The Force, however, cautioned against broad accusations targeting the entire police institution without evidence, saying such claims could undermine public confidence in security agencies.

Police authorities encouraged anyone with credible information about misconduct involving officers to report it through appropriate channels, assuring the public that all verified allegations would be thoroughly investigated.

The statement also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and maintaining public trust while continuing efforts to combat crime and improve national security.
