Governor Eno mourns Ex-IGP Solomon Arase
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, CFR, describing him as a reformer, statesman, and friend of Akwa Ibom State.
In a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Governor Eno said the news of Arase’s death came as a shock, noting that the late police chief’s contributions to both the state and the nation will be remembered with respect and admiration.
The Governor recalled that during Arase’s tenure as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, he worked with uncommon passion and dedication to ensure the state remained one of the most peaceful and secure in Nigeria. He added that as IGP, Arase introduced reforms that modernized intelligence gathering and strengthened the Nigeria Police Force’s ability to combat crime.
Governor Eno further observed that even after retirement, Arase continued to serve the country as Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and maintained his love for Akwa Ibom State.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, I express our deepest and profound condolences to the family, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), friends, and associates of the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, CFR, on his sad and painful demise.
The late IGP Arase served our Nation meritoriously and reached the height of his career as the 18th Inspector General of Police.
“As the IGP, he introduced numerous reforms, especially in intelligence gathering—both human and technological applications—to combat and solve crimes, thus ensuring the perpetrators were made to face the full wrath of the law.
“He served our State as the Commissioner of Police with verve and passion, and he contributed to laying the building blocks that today have made our State one of the most peaceful and secure in the Nation.
“Even in retirement, and as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), he continued to serve our Nation and never stopped expressing his love and affection for our State and our people. We celebrate his service to our State and the Nation.”
