Adamawa CAN rejects alleged endorsement of APC governorship candidate

The Christian Association of Nigeria, Adamawa State Chapter, has distanced itself from claims that it endorsed the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Tijani Galadima, ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the association’s chairman, Joel Manzo, clarified that neither CAN nor any of its recognised organs authorised any group to declare support for any aspirant on its behalf.
The clarification follows a recent visit by a group of women who reportedly introduced themselves as Christian leaders in the state and publicly described a governorship aspirant as “God’s chosen candidate.”
Manzo noted that while many Christians are active in various political parties and may support candidates of their choice, it is inappropriate for any individual or group to make endorsements on behalf of CAN without the consent of its duly constituted leadership.
He cited Article 7, Sub-Article 3, Paragraph 6 of the association’s 2022 bye-laws, warning that such actions could create misunderstanding and division among believers.
CAN categorically dissociated itself from the statements made during the visit and directed those involved to issue a public clarification stating that their position was personal and not that of the association.
The chairman appealed to youths and church members to refrain from spreading unverified information or making inflammatory comments, urging calm and prayerfulness.
