ADC calls for unity ahead of Monday’s presidential primary election

The African Democratic Congress has appealed to its presidential aspirants, delegates, party leaders, and members across the country to embrace unity, discipline, and democratic principles as it prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for Monday.

The party described the exercise as a defining moment, not only for its internal processes but also for Nigerians searching for a credible political alternative ahead of the next general elections.

In a public message on Sunday, the ADC stated that the conduct of all stakeholders before, during, and after the primaries would significantly influence how the public views the party’s commitment to democracy and leadership integrity.

The opposition party stressed that the primaries must be peaceful and transparent, insisting that the process should reflect the values it stands for. All aspirants, their supporters, and delegates were urged to act responsibly and with dignity throughout the event.

The call comes amid growing political realignments and early consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several parties already repositioning themselves.

The ADC has been working to expand its national presence since the 2023 elections and is positioning itself as a viable alternative to the country’s dominant political parties.

While acknowledging that disagreements and competition are natural in any democratic contest, the party warned members not to allow personal ambitions to undermine its broader goals. It emphasized that the collective mission remains rebuilding public trust and offering competent leadership to Nigerians.

The party further assured members that adequate arrangements have been made to guarantee a credible and transparent primary election. It noted that history would judge the party not just by who emerges as the candidate, but by how it conducts itself at this critical moment.

Monday’s primaries are expected to draw significant attention from political observers as the ADC officially begins the process of selecting its presidential flagbearer for the next election.
