ADC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Arrest Aregbesola Ahead of Osun Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over an alleged plot by security agencies to arrest its National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party claimed to have received credible intelligence regarding plans to detain the former Osun State governor and ex-Minister of Interior in the days leading up to the poll.

The ADC expressed fear that any potential arrest is designed to disrupt its operational leadership and political activities ahead of the election.

“An arrest on the eve of an election in which his party is participating would invite only one reasonable conclusion: that the purpose is to prevent him from leading and coordinating the party’s election activities,” Abdullahi stated.

The party emphasized that standard administrative procedures should be followed if security agencies require questioning from its national secretary, urging the federal government and security operatives to avoid actions capable of heightening political tension or undermining the credibility of the upcoming election.
