Afenifere Leader Chief Reuben Fasoranti Celebrates Wole Soyinka at 92

Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere, has paid a glowing tribute to Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on the occasion of his 92nd birthday, describing him as a rare asset to humanity.

In a congratulatory message issued on Monday by the organization’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, Fasoranti lauded the literary icon as a prominent figure whose global contributions have transcended ethnic and racial boundaries. He expressed gratitude for Soyinka’s continued mental and physical vigor, noting that his life remains a point of pride for the Yoruba race, Nigeria, and the African continent as a whole.

Born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on July 13, 1934, Soyinka made history in 1986 as the first African to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Beyond his extensive creative portfolio as a playwright, poet, and novelist, he has maintained a lifelong commitment to human rights, justice, and the promotion of good governance.

Fasoranti, who celebrated his own centenary milestone earlier this year, offered prayers for Soyinka’s continued health and longevity, expressing hope that the legendary writer would live to see a more prosperous Nigeria.
