Aggrieved APC Members Protest Alleged Imposition of Candidates in Oyo

Some members of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State staged a protest on Thursday over what they described as the imposition of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The protesters gathered at the party secretariat in Ibadan during a leadership meeting with aspirants, warning the APC leadership against allowing monetary influence in the selection of candidates. They argued that such practices had hurt the party in past elections, particularly in 2023, and called for a level playing field through free, fair, and credible primaries.

However, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said the protest was carried out by sponsored hoodlums armed with weapons and charms. He claimed the attackers unleashed terror on executive members and staff, damaging vehicles and the secretariat building.

According to Sadare, the attack lasted about two hours, but no life was lost. He added that security agents had begun an investigation into the incident.
