AI Boosts CAC Registration Capacity to 10,000 Daily Requests

The Corporate Affairs Commission has announced it now processes nearly 10,000 business registration requests daily, a significant rise from the few hundred handled in its early years, following the full deployment of artificial intelligence across its services.

The Registrar-General, Hussaini Magaji, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during an event marking the commission’s 35th anniversary. He described the milestone as a defining moment in Nigeria’s drive to formalize the economy.

Magaji acknowledged that the transition to an AI-driven platform in 2025 caused temporary disruptions and setbacks in service delivery, but stressed that the technological shift was necessary to manage current volumes.

“CAC now receives close to 10,000 business registration requests daily, compared to only hundreds in the past,” he stated. The commission’s complaint system also handles an average of 5,000 daily inquiries.

He attributed the surge to tax reforms, government formalization policies, and the growth of digital enterprises. Magaji emphasized that such a workload would be impossible to manage manually, adding that AI now enables turnaround times as short as 10 minutes for some services.

As part of its digital expansion, Magaji announced a new collaboration with Google to strengthen service delivery and unveiled a redesigned website featuring AI-powered tools, including an “AI Lawyer” for legal queries and an “AI Name Generator” for business name suggestions.

To mark the anniversary, the commission approved several initiatives, including free business name registration for 3,500 small businesses nationwide, scholarships for top corporate law students, and donations to IDP camps and orphanages. A 25% commemorative bonus was also approved for staff.

In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the House Committee on Commerce, Ahmed Munir, commended the CAC’s digital transformation for simplifying business registration and helping entrepreneurs move from the informal to the formal economy.

The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Abdullahi, pledged technical support for the commission’s AI reforms, highlighting the importance of integrating artificial intelligence into institutional operations.

Established in 1991, the CAC is Nigeria’s statutory body for company registration and plays a central role in the government’s efforts to improve the ease of doing business and expand the tax base.
