Airport – Kuje – Gwagwalada Mega Road Projects For Commisioning In June – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said that the ongoing dualisation of the Airport road to Kuje and Gwagwalada roads has reached an advanced stage, which will be ready for commissioning in June, this year, as part of activities to mark the President third years in office.
Wike gave the hint while answering questions from Journalists after he inspected the ongoing Airport road to Kuje and the Kuje – Gwagwalada road projects on Wednesday.
The Minister revealed that the Kuje – Airport road, which is being handled by the Arab Contractors, is currently at 76 percent completion.
He described the route as a key infrastructure that will transform movement within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Wike expressed excitement over the speedy progress of the all-important Airport–Kuje–Gwagwalada road, noting that the project will be ready for inauguration by June.
“I’m quite impressed. You know that the Airport to Kuje road is one road that is very key for us”, he said.
The Minister recalled his last visit to the Kuje–Gwagwalada axis where he stopped near a mosque under construction and applauded the contractors for their performance.
According to Wike, “like the contractors have said now, God’s willing, by the first week of June or June ending, we would have inaugurated this project. It’s a very important project, so that you don’t need to go through the airport if you are going to Gwagwalada or from Gwagwalada to town. We are very happy with what we have seen.”
The new road is expected to provide a major alternative route for motorists, cutting travel time and reducing the heavy traffic often experienced around the airport corridor.Giving an insight into the completion period of the ongoing Kuje – Gwagwalada Axis, Wike revealed that the stretch has already reached nearly 65 per cent completion period.
“Well, if you take from Airport to Kuje, it is over 70 per cent, and here (from Kuje to Gwagwalada) I can see it’s almost 65 per cent, so I think they will meet up,” he noted.
Residents of Kuje, Gwagwalada and surrounding communities are expected to benefit greatly from the project, which is part of Wike’s aggressive push to open up satellite towns and decongest the city centre.
With June now in sight, all eyes are on the contractors to deliver the game-changing road that promises to end the airport traffic nightmare for many commuters.
