Akwa Ibom Commissioner Denies ‘Toy Gun’ Vigilante Aide Claims

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner, Aniekan Umanah, has refuted allegations that a vigilante operative carrying a toy gun is attached to him as a security aide, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Umanah said his attention was drawn to a press release by the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) alleging that a vigilante operative was attached to him.

The Commissioner stated categorically that he has no vigilante personnel attached to him from any source whatsoever.

He explained that the security personnel serving in his office are officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who were officially posted there by the State Command to discharge their duties.

Umanah urged the Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegation to establish the facts.

He also called on members of the public to disregard such report, insisting that it has nothing to do with him.
