Anambra Gov Demotes 2 Principals for Collecting Illegal Fees
The Anambra State government has taken decisive action against two school principals, Mrs. Cecilia Okeke and Mrs. Patricia Ezeabiakwa, for allegedly collecting illegal levies from students, violating the state’s free education policy. The principals, from Community Secondary School, Awkuzu, and Community Secondary School, Igbakwu, were caught collecting between N10,000 and N40,000 from newly admitted students.
The Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, announced the demotion, stating that the principals’ actions contravened Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s free education policy. The affected principals have been advised to step aside, with their Vice Principals (Administration) taking over immediately.
The demoted principals are required to refund the collected amounts within seven days and submit proof of refund to the PPSSC headquarters in Awka. This move demonstrates the school administration’s commitment to enforcing the state’s education policy.
Governor Soludo has emphasized that any principal or teacher found violating the policy will face consequences. The PPSSC has set up a monitoring team to conduct surprise visits to schools across the state, ensuring compliance with the free education policy .
