Anambra Police Arraign Five Suspects for Rape, Incest, Child Abuse

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned five suspects before a Special Court in Awka over allegations including rape, sexual abuse, and incest, following the conclusion of investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Among those brought to court is a middle-aged man accused of having sexual relations with his daughter and allegedly infecting her with a serious viral disease. In a separate case, another suspect allegedly raped his 20-year-old daughter from when she was 17, with the victim later testing positive for HIV.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects were arraigned on May 6, 2026. Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described the crimes as heinous and unacceptable.

One of the cases involved a 26-year-old security personnel, Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, who allegedly dragged a 16-year-old girl into an uncompleted building within an estate in Ogbunike and forcefully raped her. The suspect has reportedly made a confessional statement.

In another incident, a 36-year-old barbing salon operator, Uchenna Muojama, was accused of luring an 11-year-old girl into his shop and raping her. A medical report has been obtained for court proceedings.

A 52-year-old man, Chukwudi Nwayata, allegedly took advantage of the mental condition of another 11-year-old girl and raped her. Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, reportedly confessed to having sexual relations with his daughter from when she was 17.

The fifth suspect, Eucharia Ezenwanne, was accused of subjecting two children aged six and four to severe physical abuse using a wire. She claimed to have adopted the children from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, especially children, and ensuring that offenders face justice.
