Anambra Police Arrest Two Suspects for Murder of 33-Year-Old Woman
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old woman whose body was discovered inside a roadside culvert in Oraifite, within the Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as 26-year-old Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and 20-year-old Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, were apprehended by detectives following an extensive digital forensic and intelligence-led investigation.
The case initially began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters. The following morning, community members discovered the body of an unidentified female near the Jesus Bus Stop area of Oraifite, which was subsequently identified by the missing woman’s father. The investigation was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, leading to the tracking and arrest of the two suspects on June 6, 2026.
According to police officials, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, confessed to planning and executing the attack during interrogation. He revealed that he had been in a relationship with the victim for approximately three years and claimed he was unaware of her marital status. Ikwugwara alleged that following a confrontation with the woman’s husband, he contracted a strange illness that severely impaired his vision. Holding a deep resentment over the condition, he plotted the fatal attack.
Investigators stated that the victim was lured to the suspect’s home under the pretense that he needed assistance with his illness. Upon her arrival, the two suspects allegedly attacked her with a machete, causing fatal injuries. They then transported and concealed her body in the culvert during the early hours of the next morning. State Police Command leadership commended the investigative team for their persistence and confirmed that both suspects will face formal charges in court as soon as the preliminary investigation is finalized.
