Anambra Police Set Record Straight On Jennifer Nwosu Arrest Says ‘No Money Demanded’

The Anambra State Police Command has denied allegations that ₦600,000 was demanded for the release of Ms. Nwosu Chikamso Jennifer, arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into cult-related killings in Awka.

In a statement on September 7, 2026, by the Command’s PPRO, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police said the report by Sahara Reporters, based on a letter from RULAAC dated September 5, 2026, was misleading.

According to the Command, Nwosu Kenechukwu, Jennifer’s brother, is a person of interest in investigations into several cult-related killings in Awka.

The Command stated that Jennifer was arrested on August 31, 2026, not solely because of her relationship with the suspect, but after investigation established that she assisted her brother to evade arrest by police operatives.

“The Command categorically and unequivocally denies the allegation that ₦600,000, or any other monetary consideration, was demanded as a condition for Ms. Jennifer’s release,” the statement said.

Jennifer was later granted bail in line with Police procedure after she undertook to cooperate and assist in locating her brother, who remains wanted.

The Command urged media organisations and civil society groups to verify allegations before publication and reaffirmed its commitment to due process and professional policing.
