APC Governorship Candidate Picks Running Mate as Osun 2026 Campaign Takes Shape

Preparations for the August 2026 Osun State governorship election intensified over the weekend as the All Progressives Congress (APC) unveiled the party’s deputy governorship candidate.

The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, has selected Benjamin Kayode Adereti, an engineer from Ile-Ife, as his running mate for the upcoming poll. The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, is also seeking re-election.

Following the announcement, leaders of the APC in Ife Central Local Government held a solidarity meeting in Ajebandele, Ile-Ife, on Saturday to rally support for the ticket.

In a statement issued on Sunday by prominent stakeholders including former Senator Babajide Omoworare, Professor Taiwo Olaiya, and former council chairman Nike Omoworare, party leaders described the selection as a strategic recognition of Ife’s political relevance in the state.

The APC leaders expressed confidence that Adereti’s choice would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls. They noted that the engineer had previously contested for the Ife Federal Constituency seat under the APC in the 2023 general elections and had distinguished himself as a committed party member.

The statement described both Oyebamiji and Adereti as individuals with strong educational backgrounds and professional experience, contrasting them with what party leaders characterized as the current administration’s lack of capacity.

The leaders assured that APC members in Ife Central Local Government would work closely with the deputy candidate and the party’s leadership across the state to secure victory in the August 15 election.

They further stated that the APC ticket would build on the policies of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration while delivering what they described as purposeful leadership and accelerated development to the state.
