APC Primaries: Dafinone, Okowa Clinch Senatorial Tickets in Delta

Ede Dafinone has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Delta Central, defeating former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege in a landslide victory.
Omo-Agege had earlier declared himself the winner of the contest, but official results released by the party’s primary committee told a different story.
In Delta North, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa secured the party’s senatorial ticket, while incumbent Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas established a commanding lead in Delta South, according to results announced by electoral officials.
The primaries were conducted across wards in the three senatorial districts using the direct primary system, which party officials described as peaceful and well-attended.
Delta Central Results
Announcing the outcome in the central district, the Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee for Delta State, Nusa Amagbor, declared Dafinone the winner with 116,252 votes against Omo-Agege’s 3,643 votes.
The committee stated that the process was conducted peacefully and thanked party stakeholders for their orderly conduct throughout the exercise.
Delta North and Delta South
In Delta North, returning officer Eugene Odo announced that Okowa polled 113,309 votes, while Senator Ned Nwoko managed 2,612 votes and Mariam Ali recorded 40 votes.
For Delta South, officials confirmed that Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas was leading in six out of eight local government areas, with the Independent National Electoral Commission monitoring the ongoing process.
Dafinone Calls for Unity
Following his declaration, Dafinone described the primary process as transparent, free, and fair. He described Delta Central as a highly political terrain and extended an olive branch to his opponent.
The senator called on Omo-Agege to join forces with other party members to work toward victory in the 2027 general elections across all positions.
