The Nigerian Army has heightened security operations across parts of Kwara and Niger states to combat banditry and kidnapping.

Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, outlined the ongoing efforts during the annual Army Social Activities at Sobi Cantonment in Ilorin. He stated that targeted operations, including Operation Fansan Yamma and the recently concluded Operations Park Strike IV and V, have been conducted in border communities and forest reserves around Kainji Lake National Park.

To improve response capabilities, the Army has established new Forward Operating Bases in Patigi and Ilemona, along with several patrol bases within Kwara State.

The Brigade Commander acknowledged that rising security threats in the region necessitated these actions. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure stability.

At the same event, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commended the military’s role in improving security. Represented by his Security Adviser, the governor pledged the state’s continued logistical support and cooperation for the operations.

The annual social event serves as a forum to review operational performance and foster morale within the military community.
