CDHR Calls for Peace, Neutrality from Security Agencies in Osun Poll

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has issued a caution to political actors, security agencies, and electoral officials ahead of the Osun State governorship election, warning against political violence, voter intimidation, and electoral manipulation.

In a statement released on Friday by its National President, Debo Adeniran, the human rights organization emphasized the need for a peaceful, free, and credible exercise, stating that citizen safety must remain the top priority throughout the voting process.

The group urged political candidates and their supporters to reject violence and accept the election results as a reflection of the electorate’s will. CDHR also called on security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services—to maintain strict neutrality and professionalism at polling units and collation centers.

Addressing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the advocacy group stressed the importance of seamless technical operations, urging the effective deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and real-time result uploads to strengthen public trust in the electoral process.
