Cleric Places ₦1 Million Bounty on Christian Leader’s Head in Viral Video

A yet-to-be-identified Islamic cleric in northern Nigeria has publicly offered a ₦1 million reward for the beheading of an unnamed Christian cleric, according to a viral video circulating online.

The footage, reviewed by SaharaReporters, shows the cleric holding bundles of cash while urging members of the public to carry out the killing. He promises financial payment to anyone who executes the act and suggests the bounty could be increased if the amount is deemed too small.

“I swear to God, I promise ₦1 million to whoever beheads this man,” the cleric says in the video. “If the person who wants to cut off his head feels the money is too small, let them go ahead and do it, I will increase the money.”

The intended victim and the circumstances leading to the threat remain unclear at the time of this report.

In the same video, a woman expressing alarm over the incident criticises the silence of security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), and calls for immediate action to prevent escalation.

She also draws attention to what she describes as misplaced priorities, noting that vulnerable children known as Almajiris roam the streets in poverty while the cleric appears willing to spend large sums on violence.

As of this report, the DSS and other relevant authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
