Communal Clashes: Ayade Declares Curfew In Cross River Communities

Governor of Cross River, Ben Ayade has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Oyonum and Ofatura communities in Obubura LGA of the state.

Christian Ita, the governor’s media aide, in a statement said the curfew was necessitated by the tension and ongoing clashes between both communities.

He said the governor had directed security agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the curfew.

“His Excellency, the Governor hereby directs security agencies in the state to ensure the strict enforcement of the curfew,” Ita said.

“The governor decries the destruction of lives and property in the renewed clashes, and vows that the government will bring to book all those behind the clashes.”

Cross River communities are constantly plagued with clashes arising from disagreements and land disputes.
