Counterfeit Colgate Products Without Batch Numbers Seized by NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the presence of unregistered and suspected counterfeit Colgate toothpaste in the market.
In a public notice shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, the agency said it received a complaint regarding the distribution of the fake products in Kaduna State, leading to an immediate investigation.
According to NAFDAC, its post-marketing surveillance team visited a shop where the items were sold and discovered two counterfeit variants labelled “Coglaet ActivGel 100g” and “Coglaet Herbal 100g.”
The shop owner reportedly told officials that the products were bought from a door-to-door sales agent and could not provide any proof of purchase.
NAFDAC noted that the items have not met the required regulatory standards for registration and quality assurance, making them a potential risk to public health and safety.
The agency said the counterfeit products have been removed from circulation while investigations continue to track down distributors.
The affected products “Coglaet Crema Dental Herbal 100g” and “Coglaet ActivGel 100g” carry no batch numbers or NAFDAC registration numbers. They are labelled as being manufactured by Guangzhou YECAI Oral Cleaning Products Co., Ltd in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, China, with manufacturing dates of August 2025 and expiry dates of August 2029.
NAFDAC has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and seize the fake toothpaste wherever they are found.
The agency advised distributors, retailers, and consumers to be cautious and always verify the authenticity of products before purchase. Consumers are encouraged to report any suspected counterfeit products to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322, or email sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
Healthcare professionals and patients are also urged to report any adverse effects through NAFDAC’s official platforms, including its website and the Med-Safety mobile app.
