Court Arraigns Man for Alleged N60m Visa Procurement Fraud

A man has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations of defrauding a complainant of N60 million in a visa procurement scheme.

Israel Onen was charged with four counts, including conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, and money laundering, after allegedly promising to secure Ireland and Schengen visas for the complainant’s clients.

The police prosecutor told the court that the visas were never issued and the money was not refunded. Onen pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice Ibrahim Kala granted the defendant bail in the sum of N60 million with one surety in like sum. The surety must be a civil servant of at least Grade Level 13 or a property owner with assets valued at N60 million.

The case was adjourned to February 12, 2026, for trial, and Onen was remanded in police custody pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.
