Court Jails Fake Spiritualist for Defrauding Indian Woman

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a fake spiritualist, Solomon Odigie Moses, to one year imprisonment for defrauding and blackmailing an Indian woman seeking spiritual healing.

Justice C.N. Nwabulu convicted Moses on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge bordering on cheating and impersonation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a statement posted on its X handle, said Moses posed as a spiritual leader and obtained $1,100 from the victim, identified as Sharon Kaur, through a fictitious TikTok account.

The convict, also known as Dr Solomon, was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, and allegedly received the money through his Zelle payment platform before transferring the naira equivalent into his local bank account.

According to the EFCC, Moses subsequently deceived the victim into taking a naked spiritual bath, which he allegedly recorded without her consent.

He then threatened to release the video publicly unless she paid him money.

The anti-graft agency said investigation showed that the victim eventually paid $1,100 to Moses in an attempt to prevent him from making the video public.

The charge against Moses stated that he “did fraudulently impersonate a spiritual leader named Dr. Solomon on a fictitious Tiktok account” and obtained $1,100 from Kaur under the guise of providing “spiritual prayer and assistance.”

He pleaded “guilty” to the charge, prompting the prosecution counsel, Maryam Hayatudeen, to urge the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Justice Nwabulu subsequently sentenced Moses to one year imprisonment with an option of a N300,000 fine.

The judge also ordered that the $1,100 proceeds of crime be forfeited and returned to the victim through the EFCC.
