Cross River Governor Orders Urgent Emergency Repairs on Failed Calabar-Odukpani Road

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has directed the immediate commencement of remedial work on the failed sections of the Calabar-Odukpani Road, emphasizing that the safety and convenience of commuters will no longer be compromised. The highway, which serves as a vital corridor connecting the Calabar metropolis to Odukpani, Akamkpa, and other regions of the state, has deteriorated significantly in recent months due to severe gully erosion and deep potholes, sparking widespread public outcry.
During an inspection tour of the affected areas, Governor Otu instructed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to immediately mobilize contractors to the worst-hit spots to begin emergency repairs. The governor noted that while these immediate interventions are intended to provide swift relief to motorists and residents, the state government is also designing a long-term, resilient engineering solution to address the root causes of the recurring road failures.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building sustainable infrastructure for future generations, Governor Otu appealed to residents for their patience and cooperation as rehabilitation efforts intensify. He emphasized that the administration’s primary objective remains improving the quality of life for the people of Cross River State through safe and reliable transportation networks.
