Cult violence: Police arrest two suspects, seize locally made gun in Ondo Town

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a locally made pistol during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing cult-related violence in Ondo Town.

The Suspects

The command disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh. According to the statement, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure, acting on credible intelligence provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group.

The police said the suspects were arrested on April 11, 2026, in Ondo Town, and preliminary investigations linked them to rival cult groups. They were identified as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi, allegedly affiliated with the notorious Eiye and Aiye confraternities, which have been linked to recurring violent clashes in parts of the state.

The command added that the suspects were allegedly involved in a cult clash on April 9, 2026, within the premises of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo, where rival groups reportedly disrupted public peace.

Following their arrest, the suspects reportedly cooperated with investigators and led operatives to a suspected cult hideout in the Oka Garage area, where a thorough search led to the recovery of one locally made English pistol.

The police said the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to track other fleeing members and recover additional arms. The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and violent crime in the state, stressing that offenders would be prosecuted.

He also commended the Ondo End Miscreant Group for providing timely intelligence that aided the operation and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information. The police also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his support, which has strengthened ongoing operations in the state.
