Customs Intercepts Cannabis Sativa Worth N435m in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun 1 Area Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, intercepting 3,453 parcels of Cannabis sativa with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N435,078,000. The seized narcotics were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to curb the spread of illicit substances.

According to Mr Oladapo Afeni, Area Comptroller of the NCS Ogun 1 Area Command, the interception was made possible through six intelligence-driven operations conducted between December 4 and Monday, across various locations in Ogun State. Afeni expressed concern over the impact of the seized narcotics on the youth, public health, and national security, stating that the seizure was a significant blow to the efforts of those involved in the trafficking of illicit substance.

“The seizure of these narcotics is worrisome, given their reaching impact on the youth, public health, and national security. However, we are handing over the seized drugs to NDLEA for further investigation and action,” Afeni said. He reiterated the commitment of the NCS Ogun 1 Area Command to fighting smuggling activities that pose serious health and security problems to the nation.

Commander Olaniyi Ekundayo of the NDLEA Idiroko Special Area Command, Idiroko, commended the efforts of the NCS Ogun 1 Area Command, stating that the seizure would prevent the drugs from causing harm, especially among the youth. “The NDLEA will continue to collaborate with other agencies to fight against illicit drugs and destroy the lives of the youth,” Ekundayo said. He praised the men and officers of the Ogun 1 Area Command for their dedication and commitment to the fight against drug trafficking.
