Delta Police Present ₦16.7 Million Cheques to Families of 13 Fallen Officers

The Delta State Police Command on Thursday presented cheques totalling ₦16,679,749.92 to families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

The event, held in Asaba, served as the climax of a week-long programme within the state command, leading up to the national grand finale scheduled to take place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

A total of 13 beneficiaries received the funds, which police authorities said were aimed at providing support to the families of deceased officers.

Speaking during the presentation, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as both solemn and symbolic. He stressed that it underscores the commitment of the police leadership to the welfare of its personnel and their dependants.

Mr. Oyeniyi assured the families that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them despite the loss of their loved ones.

“The sacrifices of our fallen officers remain invaluable and will never be forgotten,” he said, urging beneficiaries to make prudent use of the financial support.

One of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Command for the intervention.

He noted that the support would significantly ease the burden on affected families and offered prayers for the continued success of the police force.
