Delta Police Raid Asaba Criminal Hideouts, Arrest 202 Suspects

The Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects during a major intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens across the Asaba metropolis.

The operation, carried out on Saturday, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations alongside other officers of the command.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the raid followed credible intelligence gathered by the State Intelligence Department (SID) on activities of suspected criminals operating within the state capital.

Edafe said the operation led to the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females, for offences ranging from operating brothels to the possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related crimes.

He added that the police also impounded 25 vehicles, including five motor vehicles, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles, for violating traffic regulations, the state government’s restriction on tricycle operations and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.

Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained enforcement against criminal activities across the state.

He said the command would continue to deny criminals safe havens while intensifying efforts to maintain law and order.

The police commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that would aid crime prevention and prompt response.

The latest operation is part of the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing crackdown on criminal activities and enforcement of traffic regulations across the state.
