Early Results Emerge in Osun Governorship Election as Vote Counting Begins

Sorting and counting of votes are currently underway across Osun State following the conclusion of voting in Saturday’s governorship election, with initial results trickling in from several polling units.

Collation commenced shortly after presiding officers closed voting and completed the accreditation process. According to updates from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing (IReV) portal, over 900 out of the state’s 3,763 polling unit results had been uploaded by late afternoon.

The election features candidates from major political parties, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Ademola Adeleke representing the Accord Party, and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Leading contenders expressed optimism after casting their ballots in their respective wards. Governor Adeleke recorded his vote at Ward 2, Unit 9 in Ede North Local Government Area, while Oyebamiji voted at Ward 9, Unit 11 in Irewole Local Government Area. Meanwhile, ADC’s Salaam raised concerns regarding the accreditation of his party agents in specific locations across the state.

Preliminary results announced at individual polling units show early leads alternating across different areas:

Ward 4, Unit 39, Osogbo LGA: Accord Party secured 65 votes, followed by APC with 43 votes, ADC with 2 votes, while ZLP, AA, and AAC received 1 vote each.

Ward 4, Unit 13, Osogbo LGA: Accord Party received 134 votes, APC garnered 75, ADC recorded 4, while ADP, AAC, and APGA each received 1 vote.

Despite a generally orderly process in many areas, the election experienced minor technical hitches, including intermittent delays with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) facial recognition technology in select polling stations.

Final official results will be announced by INEC at the state collation center as sorting progresses nationwide.
