Education Minister Commends Oyo School Rescue, Reaffirms Administration’s Commitment to School Safety

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, stated on Saturday that the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State underscores the Federal Government’s firm resolve to protect citizens and maintain secure learning environments.

In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, the minister praised the high-level collaboration between the federal administration, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and the nation’s security apparatus. The joint operation not only led to the safe recovery of the victims but also resulted in the apprehension of the suspected kidnappers.

Dr. Alausa described the successful mission as a major breakthrough against criminal elements targeting educational institutions. He expressed deep sympathy to the rescued students and educators for the trauma experienced during their multi-week captivity, wishing them a swift physical and psychological recovery.

The initial abduction had triggered extensive domestic outrage and intensified security anxieties nationwide. The incident prompted a threatened strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, solidarity protests from student bodies, and sharp demands for systemic security upgrades from organized labor. The industrial action was later suspended following notable breakthroughs in the rescue efforts.

Moving forward, the Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its intention to systematically upgrade school security frameworks nationwide. Dr. Alausa emphasized that the ministry will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to fortify vulnerable communities, while urging parents, administrators, and local residents to maintain vigilance and share timely information with security personnel.
